On June 29th, Staines will host "The Big Duck Race," a highlight of the annual Staines-upon-Thames Day. This popular event, organized by the local charity MidasPlus, sees hundreds of large, pre-numbered plastic ducks, many creatively decorated by local businesses and individuals, released into the River Colne before they race down to the River Thames, finishing at the Memorial Gardens. Beyond the spectacle of a brightly coloured flotilla, the race serves as a crucial fundraiser for MidasPlus, a charity dedicated to assisting local individuals and groups facing financial hardship or physical and learning difficulties. Prizes are awarded not only for the fastest duck but also for the best-decorated entry, adding a vibrant artistic element to this charitable and much-anticipated community event.
