31 July. History of Kempton Park Racecourse (Nick Pollard, Curator of Staines Museum)
Opened in 1878, it was the idea of a 19th century businessman to open a racecourse when he saw Kempton Manor and Park for sale.
No talk in August.
25 September. Life of a Concorde Pilot: From Orphanage to the Edge of Space (John Tye)
John started with nothing but became one of only 134 pilots to fly Concorde for British Airways. Come listen to his story, along with fascinating facts on the world’s only supersonic jet and a virtual flight from Heathrow to New York. John will have signed copies of his book available for purchase after the talk.
30 October. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (Paul Iverson)
A talk on the history of the War Graves Commission, their work and the opportunity to find out specific information on a war grave associated with your family or friends.
27 November. History of Desborough Sailing Club, Shepperton (Mike Daly)
Located on the River Thames at Shepperton, Desborough’s history includes a strong association with the British Moth class sailing dinghy first built in 1932, with Desborough having the largest fleet in the early days of the class.

29 January. Entertaining Troops: Stories From The ‘Theatres’ of War (Peter Allen)
This Talk tells the story of how, during one of the darkest times in history, the show still went on. Whether through the work of the Entertainments National Service Association, better known as ENSA or when, in 1944, a Noel Coward play, inspired by R C Sherriff’s ‘Journey’s End’, premiered, not on the West End stage, but in a prisoner of war camp with a future star of the James Bond movies. …
26 February. The Day Big Ben Stopped (Malcolm Loveday)
A history of the clock and the 1976 failure investigation into the cause of the catastrophic disintegration of the famous clock mechanism undertaken by staff from the National Physical Laboratory, including the author.
26 March. History and Legacy of Runnymede and Ankerwycke (Simon Kenton)
As National Trust Manager for Runnymede and Ankerwycke site, Simon takes us on a 30 minute talk about the history of this most famous site. Talk is open for all. Followed by AGM (strictly members only)
